March 2007 – Coppicing Begins

BWAG has obtained a felling license to allow areas of the woodland, selected by Kent Wildlife Trust, to be coppiced over the coming two years. The first phase of this work is funded by the Kent Downs AONB Unit and KCC, Local Grants Scheme. Coppicing is essential to allow the woodland to rejuvenate and is beneficial to both plant and wildlife. Hopefully, this work will encourage more wildlife into the woodland next season, including Nightingales, a bird that has been missing from the area recently.
