January 2013 – BWAG’s First Land Purchase & Change of Charity Status

BWAG has purchased its first plot of land in Bredhurst Woods. 5th March 2013 – Tree Planting at Bredhurst School

With the help of BWAG members, children from Bredhurst Primary School planted hedges around the perimeter of the school grounds. Children from every class helped to plant hazel, hawthorn, blackthorn and dogwood with the support of BWAG trustees, parents and teachers. Trees were provided by the Trees to Treasure Program. 

9th April 2013 – BWAG Receives Funding

We have been awarded £500 from KCC Cllr Paul Carter’s Members Community Grant which will be used towards the cost of purchasing machinery.  Since the formation of BWAG in 2005, Paul has awarded nearly £11,000 of funding to BWAG and his close involvement and support of our project has been invaluable.

27th & 28th April 2013 – Bluebell & Cream Tea Weekend

Due to a very late spring, there were not many bluebells out for our event this year but the wood was full of wood anemone in flower. 18th May 2013 – BWAG at the Bredhurst Information Day

BWAG attended the first Bredhurst Information Day, organised by Bredhurst Parish Council and held at Bredhurst School. For many years, attendance at the Annual Village Meeting had been very poor, so this year the format was changed which proved very successful. 26th May 2013 – Reptile Ramble

As part of the North Kent Walking Festival, BWAG and KRAG (Kent Reptile and Amphibian Group) held a Reptile Ramble. It was well attended and enjoyed by all.

18th June 2013 – An Evening With Tom Hart Dyke

An excellent talk from Tom - his enthusiasm and plant knowledge is incredible. Over a hundred guests packed Bredhurst Village Halll and none were disappointed! Thank you to everyone who attended and, especially, to Tom for his support of BWAG.

28th June 2013 – BWAG Speak at KCMP Conference

BWAG were pleased to attend the Kent Countryside Management Partnership Conference, held at Allington Castle. Lord Chris Smith, Chairman of the Environment Agency opened proceedings and BWAG gave a presentation about its development and work at Bredhurst Woods.

Summer 2013 – Weekly Bat Surveys

Every Thursday evening throughout the summer months, BWAG Trustee, Steve Wright, led BWAG members on weekly Bat surveys. Surveys have been carried out regularly since 2009 and have established that there are large numbers of Pipistrelle Bats as well as Noctule and Serotine in and around Bredhurst Woods.

29th September 2013 – BWAG at St Peter’s ‘Pets to Church’ Day

BWAG had a stand at 'Pets to Church Sunday'. The church was full of pets of all shapes and sizes and there were information stands and a BBQ in the field next to the church. We gave out lots of BWAG leaflets and had several membership enquiries. A lovely community event enjoyed by dogs, rabbits, chickens and even a box of worms!

BWAG was invited to speak at the British Natural History 'Communicate 2013' Conference, in Bristol. Environmentalists from over 100 organisations across the UK attended and included the BBC, The Wildlife Trust, The Guardian, Natural England and many universities. 5th December 2013 – BWAG Carol Concert

Thank you to all members and supporters who attended the BWAG Carol Concert and especially to the Cantium Singers who perform for us every year! It was a beautiful concert and a lovely start to the festive season. We raised just under £1400 which will be used for further restoration of Bredhurst Woods and land purchase.
