Heart breaking to see the damage caused to footpaths in Bredhurst Woods in recent weeks. This is PRIVATE land which a few irresponsible and mindless individuals take pleasure in destroying. These paths are normally used for the BWAG Bluebell walk in April but we're not sure if the damage can be repaired before then. We have spoken to the Police ...

A very sad day today as we say goodbye to Owen Sweeney, a strong supporter of BWAG who led many bird walks for us over the years and carried out several bird surveys. He was also of tremendous support to BWAG throughout our difficult negotiations with National Grid. A lovely kind hearted man who will be sadly missed.

Many thanks to Dr Lee Brady for a fascinating insight into the world of the adder and other reptiles at the BWAG event 'All About Adders'. It was well attended, 2 new members joined and 4 new volunteers came forward to help with this year's surveying. More details about the monitoring programme will be advertised very soon.

A fantastic evening with the Graham Mann Quartet - all are exceptionally talented musicians. Thank you also to our professional sound and lighting engineer, James, who set the perfect atmosphere for the evening and to all guests who made this a sell-out event. A busy day in the woods today. The Police were phoned on 3 separate occasions, twice about off road bikes trespassing on private land and the last call was regarding two 4x4s which were trapped in the woods as both gates were padlocked. Police officers from the Rural Team met with Trustees today to discuss what help they can offer BWAG to stop the extensive damage being caused by off road vehicles illegally trespassing on private land. It was a very successful meeting.

Off road drivers/riders often give the excuse that they don't know which paths they're allowed to use. The only route vehicles may use is KH94 (shown in red on the map below) and ONLY if they hold a valid Kent County Council permit. A huge thank you to Kent Police for organising a special operation in Bredhurst Woods and the surrounding area today. An off road motorbike team and four squad cars patrolled Bredhurst, Boxley Warren and Walderslade Woods all day. BWAG trustees were made very welcome tonight at the Maidstone Ramblers meeting. Our presentation was well received and they kindly gave a generous donation to BWAG. Look out for them tomorrow as they are visiting Bredhurst Woods and The Bell!

Several new volunteers attended our April Task Day. We were also grateful to ‘Invicta 4x4 Off Road Club’ for coming along to help. Their members have permits to use the byway which they use legally and responsibly. It's good that we can all work together to make the woods an enjoyable place for us to all use.
